PANIC

watched PANIC ROOM last night with Rachel and her sis Nicole (happy birthday BK!). An overall excellent movie- pacing was good and cinematography superb. But why the Spielberg-esque ending? Must there always be a happy ending or a human touch to it? I don't think movie-goers are that dumb (well, at least I hope not).

Panic Room could've ended without that last scene (I don't wanna spoil it for those who haven't seen it).
A.I. could've (SHOULD'VE) ended with the robot kid trapped underwater in that jetcopter praying to the blue fairy for all eternity or until his batteries runout.
Saving Private Ryan didn't need that last scene in the War Memorial/cemetery.

ooooh since we are on the movie tip am not that hot about Spider-Man's organic webshooters! c'mon in the comics that's his one vulnerability. The director says that it's hard for him to justify how a teen-ager can develop an adhesive that industrial giant 3M can't. Hmm....organic webshooters would shoot stuff outta my nose or butt hahaha ..it's a good movie though :)

BEAUTIFUL

by the gods! it seems to be working now. anyway, tomorrow is Groove Nation's BEAUTIFUL party featuring Tomoyuki Tanaka otherwise known as Fantastic Plastic Machine. Starts at sunset.

Seems the in thing right here is "chillout"- funny but we had the same thing going on years ago when we had LAVA LOUNGE, playing bossa nova, loungecore and downtempo when everybody else was doing trance and "underground warehouse rave parties" hahahaha. Of course these events were gobbled up by sponsors- seeing the commercial potential, having one every weekend- and naturally, spat out when it's value was well, NIL. Have to admit trance and its off-shoots (hard house?) is popular because its highly accessible- it is formulaic and predictable- repetitious (boring?) (thus inducing a state of trance haha), and for my taste, lacks SOUL. Are there any African-American trance DJ's? (if not..call that an OXYMORON) I wouldn't know of any. Now HOUSE music, that's got SOUL. Mixing jazz and blues influences with Afro-Latin beats. Gimme Derrick Carter, DJ Sneak, Stacey Pullen, oh, you also have non-African-American House DJ's as well- Doc Martin (American of Armenian descent), Jesper Dahlback (Swede), Laurent Garnier (French), Ian Pooley (German), even EBTG's Ben Watt (OI! Brit! ) mixes a mean set. heh. You know what I mean, don't you?

How's that for my first rant?

Ok...so am new to this blog thing. The reason why this is catching on? Could it be part of our inquisitive selves, forever searching for things and experiences we can relate to?

Or is it just a twisted form of exhibitionism?
